Kirinya Jinja SS Coach Abbey Bogere Kikomeko has praised his players’ efforts in taking maximum points against Police FC.
Kirinya won 1-0 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter played at the Mighty Arena on Tuesday.
Star striker Joel Madondo scored at the stroke of halftime after exchange of passes with Bagoole before bundling home the only important goal.
I congratulate my players because they have given their all out. They looked at the table and realised that we needed to push harder and that is what they are doing,” Kimomeko told the official Club website.
They (players) are very motivated and you can see that they give their all to pick points. The team had been conceding very early goals so we have tried to work on our defensive approach.
So we changed the strategy of defending. We have tried to make sure that we contain the opponents in the opening periods and then attack them when they cool down.”
This was Kirinya’s first league win in 2019 – The team’s last victory was against Paidha Black Angels (0-1) in Arua in December 11, 2018.
Police had won the reverse fixture in Lugogo, 3-2 with goals from Johnson Odong (2) and Ashraf Mugume.
Bogere who took over after the departure of Charles Ayiekho who left to complete his studies, added:
It is important that we started winning games. It is important to me because we have worked hard to rectify some errors. We lost to Vipers and drawn with Onduparaka and Tooro United in my first three games so a win comes at the right time.
We have to build and maintain this shape as we approach our next games. The win will motivate everyone as we continue with this journey to help the club finish in a respectable position.”
